Fake encounter: two cops surrender in court

A police inspector and a constable,wanted in the fake encounter of Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya,surrendered before Sessions Court Principal Judge M L Tahaliyani Monday.

A police inspector and a constable,wanted in the fake encounter of Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya,surrendered before Sessions Court Principal Judge M L Tahaliyani Monday.

Police inspector Dilip Palande and constable Prakash Kadam were immediately arrested from the court.

The court,on July 3, had issued non-bailable warrants against seven police officers including Palande and Kadam for their alleged role in the fake encounter.

“Palande and Kadam were part of the police team that shot Gupta. Palande is accused of gunning down Gupta,” said special public prosecutor R N Mishra.

With the arrest of the duo,the number of arrested in the case reached 11. Suspended encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma and senior police inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi had been arrested earlier in the encounter case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the incident following a Bombay High Court directive on a petition filed by Gupta’s brother advocate Ramprasad. He alleged that it was a fake encounter.
