Escalators, lifts, GPS clocks: Central Railway enhances passenger amenities across Mumbai division

The Central Railway’s Mumbai division has introduced several new amenities across its network to enhance travel safety, accessibility, and convenience for commuters. The latest additions include escalators, lifts, improved passenger information systems, upgraded ticketing facilities, and provisions for passengers with disabilities.

Two new escalators have been installed at the Karjat station on platform 1 near the Kalyan-end foot overbridge. Additionally, a new lift has been commissioned at Shelu station on platform 1 at the Karjat-end foot overbridge. These facilities aim to provide easier access for senior citizens, passengers with disabilities, pregnant women and passengers with medical conditions.

Four new GPS clocks have been installed at the Sandhurst Road station to improve real-time travel information. Old suburban train indicators have been replaced with new, clearer displays at the Ghansoli, Rabale, and Airoli stations.

At the Ulhasnagar, Vangani, and Neral stations, new all-in-one video display indicators have been installed to assist passengers with better visibility of train schedules. The public announcement system at Ulhasnagar station has also been upgraded with new speakers to improve communication and ensure timely updates.

To make ticketing more efficient, 575 new automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) have been installed at 86 stations in the Mumbai division. The railway has also initiated the procurement of 226 additional ATVMs. These machines are expected to ease passenger movement by reducing queues at ticket counters.

For passengers with disabilities, 170 new buzzers have been installed at various stations on the Main and Harbour lines. These buzzers will assist visually challenged passengers in locating designated areas meant for their use, ensuring a more accessible travel experience.
