The incident occurred at approximately 12:09 pm on Thursday at the Navjeevan building in Govind Nagar, Malad East. A slab on the 20th floor of the 23-storey SRA building collapsed during routine concrete work, crashing down on six labourers who were working on various floors.

According to SRA officials, two labourers were engaged in finalizing the concreting work on the 20th floor. Below them, two other labourers were attempting to remove a pipe connected to the ready mix concrete plant’s pump. When the pipe’s clamp came loose, the supporting structure gave way. As a result, a portion of the slab fell onto the labourers working beneath it.

The falling debris, which included the slab and concrete slurry, struck additional labourers working below, causing further injuries.

Among the six victims, Gopal Banika Modi (32), Sohan Jachil Rothe (26), and Vinod Keshav Sadar (26) were pronounced dead at M.W. Desai Hospital in Malad. The remaining injured—Rupsan Mamin (30), Jalil Rahim Shaikh (45), and Mohammad Kalamuddin Shaikh (30)—are receiving treatment for their injuries.
