The investigation into the murder of a 22-year-old engineering student by her college mate and his two accomplices has revealed that the trio dug up a pit at secluded spot in Ahmednagar district a day before abducting her. Police have also recovered the car used in the crime.
On March 30, Bhagyashree, who was a student of BE (Computer Science) at GH Raisoni College in Pune, was kidnapped and murdered on the same day in a rented car by fellow college student Shivam Fulawale (21) and his two accomplices—Suresh Shivaji Indure (23) and Sagar Ramesh Jadhav (23).
Probe has revealed that after gagging her to death in the car, the trio took her to a secluded spot at Kamargaon village in Ahmednagar district. Probe suggests that they burnt her body with petrol and then buried her in the ground. Police have recovered the body from this spot.
“During investigation, we found that the accused dug up the pit at the secluded place in Ahmednagar, a day prior to committing the crime, suggesting that this was a premeditated act,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil.
“Probe has revealed that the suspects used a car rented from a car-sharing platform and drove to Ahmednagar themselves. They gagged her to death in the car. They had returned the car to the service provider after committing the crime. We have recovered the car from the service provider as part of the probe,” said an officer who is part of the investigation.
Earlier investigation revealed that while a search was on for Bhagyashree after she went missing on March 30, her mother had received a ransom message on April 2 from Bhagyashree’s cell phone number. The message in Hindi read, “Allah Hafiz Sude family. Stop searching for Bhagyashree. We have kidnapped her. We have sent her to a foreign country.”
It further asked her parents to transfer Rs 9 lakhs into her bank account as ransom for her release. It also threatened that if police were informed, pieces of her body would be thrown at their native village Harangul in Latur district. Probe has now revealed that they had killed her on March 30.
Police said that the purpose behind sending the message was to mislead the family and investigators into believing that she was alive. Police suspect the trio commited the crime for money.
