A Garba celebration at an upscale housing society in Mira Road on the outskirts of Mumbai was disrupted late on Tuesday night after an egg was allegedly hurled from an upper floor, sparking tension among residents and prompting a police investigation.

The incident occurred between 10.30 pm and 11 pm at the JP Infra complex in Kashigaon, where society members had organised Navratri festivities.

According to the police, a resident had earlier objected to the event, citing violations of noise and loudspeaker regulations. The individual was reportedly seen checking decibel levels, recording the celebrations on a mobile phone, and making multiple calls to the police control room to intervene.

Around 10.50 pm, some residents claimed they saw objects being thrown from the 16th floor. A broken egg was later discovered near two women police personnel deployed at the venue. The alleged disruption angered participants, several of whom then went to the Kashigaon police station demanding strict action.

An FIR was registered in the early hours of Wednesday under Section 300 (disturbing religious assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Additional police personnel were deployed in the society to ensure public order and prevent escalation.

A senior police officer said no arrest has been made so far. “CCTV footage is being examined and statements of witnesses are being recorded to establish the exact sequence of events. Based on the findings, appropriate action will be taken,” the officer added.

The JP Infra building has witnessed disputes in the past. Earlier too, residents have clashed over religious and cultural practices within the complex, creating tensions among neighbours.
