The state higher and technical education department has formed two committees to look into the issue of hostels after a girl was allegedly murdered by the watchman of a state-run girls hostel in South Mumbai.
A one-member committee is going to conduct an administrative inquiry into the incident.
Whereas another five-member committee is going to conduct a security audit of all the hostels run by the department.
The higher and technical education department on Wednesday issued two Government Resolution (GR) in this regard.
Noting that the incident at the South Mumbai hostel is very serious in nature, the GR, states, “A one-member committee is formed with Dr. Nipun Vinayak, state project director of RUSA (Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) to conduct administrative inquiry in the incident.”
This committee is instructed to submit the report immediately after the probe.
Whereas a separate five-member committee, headed by Director Higher Education will conduct a security audit of all hostels run by the department and submit the report in seven days.
“This committee will review security measures at all government run hostels with help of hostel heads, local authorities and police. Following the audit, it should suggest an action-plan to better the conditions and prepare a road-map for its implementation, in consultation with respective hostel wardens,” states the GR.
This five-member committee which shoulders the responsibility suggesting action plans to avoid similar incidents in future will have to submit its report by June 14.
