LESS INTENSE spells of rain will continue to persist over Mumbai till the end of the weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its five day forecast released on Friday reported that light rains will continue in the city between Friday and Tuesday (August 8).

The IMD has not placed Mumbai, Thane and Palghar under any alert till middle of next week, however a yellow alert was issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts for Friday, indicating moderate to heavy rainfall in certain pockets.

“At present, there are no strong westerlies that are blowing past Mumbai. Also, the low pressure has moved towards Uttar Pradesh. This has brought some respite from the heavy rains as the western coast of Konkan belt will record only light to moderate rains for the next few days. This is an absolutely normal situation since during August, there is usually a monsoon break that takes place,” Sushma Nair, scientist from IMD, Mumbai told Express on Friday.
