Driver injured as tree crashes on taxi in Mumbai’s Dadar

The tree collapse was reported even as the city has been experiencing only light showers over the past few days.

A 35-year-old taxi driver was injured after a roadside tree collapsed in Mumbai’s Dadar and crashed upon the vehicle on Wednesday.

The injured driver, Salman Khan, was taken to the civic-run Bhabha hospital in Bandra where he is undergoing treatment.

The incident was reported at 10.08 am near Shobha Hotel at Dadar West’s Shivaji Park.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, the mishap occurred after a tree along the L J road in Dadar West fell and crashed atop a taxi, leaving the driver injured.

The tree collapse was reported even as the city has been experiencing only light showers over the past few days.

Data furnished by the weather bureau shows that between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, the Santacruz observatory recorded 0.1 mm rain while the Colaba coastal observatory received 6 mm rainfall.

According to meteorologists, the intensity of showers is slated to gather momentum starting Wednesday, when the India Meteorological department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert in the city owing to the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated pockets of the district.

The yellow alert will remain in place until at least August 17.
