However, later the DTE eliminated all wrong questions from the marking scheme for the question papers in all four slots conducted on March 14 and 15.

Students burn the midnight oil, prepare very hard for exams and there should be no mismanagement during management exams, said the Bombay High Court while listening to a couple of petitions pointing out “glitches” and “erroneous” evaluation in the recently conducted entrance test for almost 60,000 MBA aspirants.

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), which conducts the CET, on Monday informed the HC that it will not start with admissions scheduled for April 10.

“Next year, when you want to start something new, then you should inform the students in advance. There should be no mismanagement in management courses. Students prepare hard, practically, their whole career depends on it. More particularly, management, engineering and medical. They start working hard as early as class 8,” said the High Court.

The students, including 25-year-old Bhagat Makhijani, who appeared for the exam claim students wasted their time while attempting erroneous questions after being asked by invigilators who turned up 45 minutes late in examination centres. A lawyer who appeared for another student informed Justices V M Kanade and A R Joshi that the exam was all about an “unexpected variable”, namely, “wrong questions”.

The DTE, through their lawyer, said in the maiden online test for students, there were certain “wrong questions”. However, later the DTE eliminated all wrong questions from the marking scheme for the question papers in all four slots conducted on March 14 and 15.

The DTE has said after receiving complaints, it constituted a two-member committee to look into the issue. The committee, comprising a technical and academic expert, submitted its report. “All those questions that stirred up the controversy were removed and students were evaluated after reduction of marks on equipercentile basis,” said the the lawyer representing DTE. “We took the advice of an expert statistician and decided on the evaluation.”

This, however, had given rise to “unfair evaluation”, which was on the equipercentile basis, said the counsel representing the students, asking for a re-test.
