Domestic helps held for spiking tea,robbing elderly

The Versova police arrested two domestic helps,who allegedly looted valuables worth Rs 16 lakh from a senior citizen after spiking her tea,on Friday.

The Versova police arrested two domestic helps,who allegedly looted valuables worth Rs 16 lakh from a senior citizen after spiking her tea,on Friday. The accusedHasina Dandu (22) alias Sheetal and Sharifa Durio (21) alias Manisha were arrested from Kalyan after their mobile phones were traced by the police.

According to the Versova police,65-year-old Malvinder Singh Gulati,who stays at the Golden Heights Building with her husband,was looking for a domestic help and had gone to the watchman to enquire about the same on August 14. While she was talking to the watchman,a woman who was passing by overheard their conversation and approached Gulati. She told Gulati that she worked nearby and offered to work for her. Gulati agreed and took her upstairs without entering her name in the visitors register.

Gulati told the security guard since she was accompanying the woman,he did not need to register her name. Sheetal left after finishing work at Gulatis house, said Sharad Bodke,senior inspector of Versova police station.

The next day,Sheetal called up Gulati before coming home. She brought a friend along and introduced her as Manisha. When Gulati asked why she brought her,Sheetal said Manisha would help her finish the household work quickly as she had to go other houses as well. Gulati then went to the bedroom to rest, said Bodke.

Gulati was alone at home as her husband was out for a walk.

Sheetal then made a cup of tea for Gulati who fell unconscious after drinking it. Both the domestic helps hurriedly robbed valuables worth Rs 16 lakh and fled. When Gulatis husband came home,he found her unconscious and informed the police, Bodke added.

The police traced the mobile number from which Sheetal had called Gulati.
