NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has asked the state government to distribute the houses built for mill workers.
Addressing the national convention of the NCPs National Front of Indian Trade Unions (NFITU) at Airoli on Sunday,Pawar pointed out that while around 4,000 houses built for the workers from the now defunct textile mills in Mumbai were ready, they were yet to be distributed. He added that the state government must take the responsibility to distribute these houses soon. The polls to the BMC are due early next year.
Pawar is the chief patron of the NFITU while former minister and Rajya Sabha MP Govindrao Adik is its general secretary. Pawar also called for more welfare measures for unorganised sector workers.
