Amid criticisms from Sena (UBT) leaders that the Speaker is delaying the decision on disqualification pleas of Sena MLAs, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Rahul Narvekar Wednesday said that he will not be intimidated by “empty threats” and will not “fall prey to pressure tactics”.

Narvekar said that he would strictly follow the Constitution and the Maharashtra Legislature Members (Removal of Disqualification) Act, 1956 while hearing the petitions and deciding on the matter.

Without naming Sena UBT, Narvekar said that some people are trying to put pressure and influence him while hearing the disqualification petitions but he will not fall prey to such pressure tactics.

“Many people are trying to influence my decision making process. But I will take decisions only according to the provisions of the law, rules and constitution. No matter how much someone tries to influence me, no matter what accusations are made, I will work according to the rules. They are trying to put pressure on the Assembly Speaker (Narvekar). But (Narvekar) will not intimidated by your empty threats. I will not fall prey to such pressure tactics,” said Narvekar.

Responding to the accusation of opposition that Narvekar is “killing democracy”, Narvekar said, “I don’t think it is necessary to respond to such allegations. Is rule-following killing democracy? If I make a decision without listening to any party’s side, they will raise objection. So what answer can be given to the accusations of such people? There is no point in wasting time in replying to the comments made by people who have no knowledge of the Constitution and rules,” he said.

Narvekar further said that he will decide on which faction of the Shiv Sena in the real political party and will follow all the rules while deciding it.

“I will neither delay nor hurry in taking a decision. Rules will be followed. Opportunity for natural justice will be given to those who need it,” said Narvekar.

Meanwhile Narvekar is all set to issue the notices to the heads of both the factions of Sena Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde and would summon then to listen to their side.
