A multi-storey car park at the Bandra-Kurla Conmplex (BKC) with a capacity of over 800 will soon be taken over by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

According to an MMRDA official,a 15,000-square metre plot was allotted to East India Hotel Limited in 2001 with a total built-up area of 60,000 square metres for construction of a hotel. The pre-condition to this allotment was that the allottee will construct a separate multi-storey building, with a minimum built-up area of 30,000 square metres, offering about 800 spaces for car parking and hand it over to MMRDA free of cost. The MMRDA now has the exclusive right and title to the multi-storey car park.

The MMRDA will invite tenders to appoint an operator for the car park after the handover process is completed,an MMRDA official said. The car park will be equipped with adequate fire safety measures, circulation space and provide proper ventilation and lighting. Other ancillary facilities such as ticketing offices, toilets, refreshment facilities and rest rooms will also be provided.
