Death for man who raped, killed six-year-old in 2010

On the night of June 6, 2010, the girl went missing while playing outside her house in Bhayander.

A Thane Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old man to death after holding him guilty of raping and killing his neighbour’s six-year-old daughter in 2010.

On the night of June 6, 2010, the girl went missing while playing outside her house in Bhayander. Her body was found in a drain in the locality the next day. The Bhayander police went on to arrest Sanjay Nishad alias Kewat, who used to stay next door. Subsequent investigations revealed that he had kidnapped her while she was playing after dinner, raped her in his house and bludgeoned her to death with an iron spanner, after which he dumped her body in the nullah. Nishad was caught by the police along with residents of the locality while trying to flee.

“We presented a total of 13 witnesses in the court, as well as strong evidence, including the clothes of the victim and the murder weapon, both of which were recovered from his house. Medical reports confirmed the presence of the victim’s blood on the clothes that Nishad had been wearing on the day of the offence and his semen on her body,” said Public Prosecutor Sanjay Londhe.

Terming it a brutal and inhuman act, the Thane Sessions court sentenced Nishad to death for murder and to life imprisonment for rape, Londhe added
