The expansion of platform number 4 at Dadar station is set to alleviate congestion and streamline the movement of long distance mail and express trains, according to a senior official from the Central Railway.
Currently, the long distance trains are required to utilise the loop line due to existing infringements and space limitations on the platform. However, with the ongoing efforts by the Central Railway to remove these obstacles, long distance trains will no longer need to utilise the loop line, improving punctuality and efficiency.
This development will also benefit local train services by freeing up the loop line for their movement, enhancing punctuality to some extent. The official said that with direct access to the through line track, mail and express trains can maintain their speed without the need to slow down. This is particularly significant for suburban passengers, whose train schedules are often affected by delays caused by long distance trains.
Once the work is completed, the number of trains originating and terminating at Dadar station are expected to increase. Currently, the station sees a substantial volume of long distance train traffic, with 102 trains passing through daily, split evenly between up and down directions, in addition to 14 trains terminating or originating from the station.
Dadar station, a pivotal hub for the Central Railway, plays a crucial role in the region’s transportation network, especially with its connectivity to the western railways. The station sees a bustling daily operation of 1,810 local services, including AC services on weekdays, with 16 local train services originating and terminating at Dadar station.
