From his room at Parikh Khadi in Kurla, constable Adhikarao Kale (39) keeps himself updated on the progress of the trial of Ajmal Kasab who,he alleges, had shot him in the stomach at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).

“I watch the news every night. It is because of him that I am still suffering… He should be hanged as early as possible,” he says.

The Mumbai Railway Police constable, posted at CST railway police station, had his intestine punctured by the bullet that entered his upper abdomen. “Eight months later,I still cannot sit for more than 30 minutes. The area around the injury starts aching. I have lost a lot of sleep,” he said.

On the night of 26/11,Kale was patrolling platform no 1 at the north end of CST. “Suddenly we heard an explosion. Commuters started running here and there,” he said.

“We then heard gunshots and took positions accordingly. Slowly the noise got louder, indicating that they were moving in our direction. I took up position near the ticket window.” Some 20-25 plainsclothed policemen were besides Kale.

“Kasab was spraying bullets and he walked towards the subway. He spotted me and again fired. I had no time to take cover and suddenly felt the bullet pierce my stomach. But there was no pain then. Seconds before it hit me,the bullet had first struck another person,a commuter,” he said.

“After I was hit,the only thought that came to me was about my kids,” added Kale, who has a daughter (Mayuri) and a son (Swapnil),studying in classes IV and I respectively. “She is good at studies,” he says, pointing at Mayuri.
