The Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the police to create awareness and warn the general public against fake monetary schemes. We are anxious about such crimes. People lose their hard earned money in these schemes, Justice Ranjana Desai said while hearing a case pertaining to the alleged fraud in the SpeakAsia online scheme. She also stressed the need for a regular survey of such websites.
The court also directed the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to consider taking the help of former director of the Forensic Science Laboratory,Dr Rukmini Krishnamurthy,in cases pertaining to online crimes. It asked the Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the EOW to meet Dr Krishnamurthy and then decide on taking her assistance.
Meanwhile, the All India SpeakAsia Panelists Association has filed a petition claiming they have suffered losses due to the police action against the scheme. Justice Desai said the court will hear the petition but made it clear the petitioners have not been given a clean chit.
The case has been adjourned for two weeks.
