A SPECIAL court on Wednesday granted bail to four persons named by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in its chargesheet filed in the Covid-19 Jumbo centre case.

The court granted bail to Hemant Gupta, Sanjay Shah and Rajeev Salunkhe, partners of Lifeline Hospital Management Services, the firm which was given the contract to supply medical services to Dahisar and Worli Jumbo Covid centres in 2020.

The court also granted bail to Dr Arvind Singh, an employee of the firm. The accused had appeared before the court after it issued summons to them. They sought bail on the ground that the agency had not arrested them or sought their custody for interrogation during the probe and now that the chargesheet has been filed, there is no necessity to put them behind bars, referring to Section 88 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The court allowed their pleas.

Two others–Sujit Patkar, also a partner of Lifeline Hospital, and Dr Kishore Bisure, the dean at the Dahisar centre, were arrested in July by the ED. They continue to be behind bars.
