The Bhoiwada police, investigating the alleged medicine black marketing racket unearthed in the Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel earlier this year, have traced the trail of the stolen medicines all the way to Delhi.

Subsequent investigations have also revealed that the accused, apart from medicines, also stole medical equipment from the hospital and sold them, the police said.

On November 11 this year, the Bhoiwada police had arrested ward boys Ajit Karotiya (27) and Dinesh Dodhiya (24) for allegedly stealing cancer medication from the ICU of the Hospital and selling them to Raju Bagde, an agent, and Rakesh Babriya, who deals in medicines.

The police, while inquiring further, found out that Karotiya and Dodhiya were also stealing surgical equipment and selling it. While tracing the trial of the stolen medicines and equipment, the police have zeroed in on a man identified only as Rajesh alias Raju Dilliwala.

“All the accused have said in their interrogation that he was the largest buyer of the stolen medicines. The accused have stated in their statements that Rajesh specifically bought medicines needed for cancer treatment and equipment such as surgical staplers and stitches, that are not easily available in Delhi and are in better supply at the hospital,” said an officer with the Bhoiwada police.

The police are now trying to trace and apprehend Dilliwala.
