Keeping in mind the rush during the upcoming Navrati festival, the police will beef up the security at all major pandals across the city, starting from Wednesday. Senior police officers said all the precautionary measures will be taken to ensure that the festivities go on smoothly. Besides, the police will keep a closer watch on the western and northern suburbs as most dandiya events take place in these areas.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajnish Seth said they had organised meetings with dandiya organisers and had asked them not to take the security lightly. We have had many meetings with the organisers and have categorically asked them to ensure that security remains tight at venues. We have told them to ensure that every visitor is frisked as crowded places can pose a security threat, said Seth.
The police have asked the organisers to install Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at their venues and monitor them as well. CCTV monitoring helps cut down response time. We have asked organisers to install these cameras and monitor them so that we can spot any suspicious movement, said Seth.
We have asked the State Reserve Police Force, the Rapid Action Force,Home Guards and the local police to remain vigilant at all times. They will be responsible for security during the festivities. We have also asked the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to remain on standby,in case there is any suspicious object found in any of the venues, Seth said.
Leaves of all police personnel have been cancelled till the end of Navratri and Dussehra festivals. Policemen have been asked to be on the lookout for suspicious persons and unattended baggage.
The big events take place in the western and northern regions of the city. We will be closely monitoring them and will ensure that all major pandals have enough security cover. We have also asked organisers to hire private security guards, he added.
