A 27-year-old police constable ended his life by hanging himself inside the library at police camp in Worli late on Sunday. Police said the constable had an altercation with his female friend after she caught him chatting with another woman on social media, and subsequently blocked him due to which he opted to end his life.

According to police officials, the constable has been identified as Indrajeet Salunkhe. He was posted in the Local Arms department of the Mumbai Police and stayed in a police camp at Worli.

An officer said, “The constable had been seeing a 23-year-old girl since April. And on Sunday afternoon, he met the girl at Buddha Garden near Worli Chowpatty.”

There, the two had an altercation after the girl allegedly caught him chatting with another woman on Instagram.

Following the fight, the constable dropped her at Dadar railway station and went home. “Later he found out that his girlfriend had blocked him from calling her,” said an investigator.

He tried reaching her several times but as he could not get through, he then decided to end his life.

Salunkhe then tied a nylon rope to the window of the library. “The constable sent a picture of himself hanging to his girlfriend’s friend. He even sent a message that he was committing suicide following which he hanged himself to death,” said an officer.
