From transport to accommodation to reception to war room, the three parties of Maharashtra’s Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi have shared responsibilities as they prepare for the third meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), to be held in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut will handle the war room for the meeting. “The war room will look after the preparations as well as handle any issues, be it logistical or security-related, arising during the programme,” said a Congress leader who is part of the preparations.
While the Sena (UBT), led by former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, has made the booking arrangements for the guests, which include chief ministers of various states as well as top national leaders, former Congress MP Milind Deora is in charge of allotting the accommodation and ensuring that all guests are treated equally.
The NCP led by Sharad Pawar is in charge of the transportation of senior leaders from the airport and back.
Thackeray will host all leaders of the national Opposition front for a dinner on August 31. The dinner will have a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods with special Marathi items such as puran poli, alu wadi and shrikhanda. The Congress will host a lunch for them on September 1.
Congress leaders will be at the airport’s terminals T1 and T2 as well as at gate number 8 to receive the guests. Former Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam is in charge of these operations. Former MLA Madhu Chavan and former minister Aslam Sheikh, among other Congress leaders, will join Nirupam.
All the three parties recently met the Mumbai police commissioner to discuss security-related issues ahead of the event. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who is leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, and NCP leaders are talking to government departments to ensure the smooth functioning of the meeting.
Every guest will have a leader from an MVA party in their care to guide them around the city.
The media and advertisement department will be handled by a Congress team led by former minister Satej Patil, state spokesperson Atul Londhe and general secretary Sachin Sawant.
