Commuters fret as roads go chock-a-block during CM swearing-in
According to traffic authorities, vehicular movement was affected on Madame Cama Road, Marine Drive near Wankhede Stadium, and near Horniman Circle in Fort.

As BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and NCP’s Ajit Pawar took oath as the new Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers of the state respectively, commuters in South Mumbai had to face heavy traffic congestion with several chokepoints on roads leading to Churchgate and CST railway stations.
According to traffic authorities, vehicular movement was affected on Madame Cama Road, Marine Drive near Wankhede Stadium, and near Horniman Circle in Fort.
An officer said, “Roads leading to and around Churchgate station, including VN Road, R Bubna Chowk, and Maharshi Karve Road, were heavily jammed.”
There was also significant congestion between Nagpada Junction and CST railway station.
“Additionally, vehicular movement was heavily affected on PD Mello Road (both south — and north-bound) and Shahid Bhagat Singh Road near Colaba,” an officer added.
Police had announced traffic diversion around Azad Maidan and a dedicated team, comprising one additional commissioner of police, three deputy commissioners of police, 30 police officers, and 250 other personnel, were assigned to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles during the ceremony.
A resident of Cuffe Parade, Mahadev Koli, said, “I live in Badhwar Park in Cuffe Parade, and to reach home early, I left work before usual. I took a bus from the CST station, but was stuck at the same location for a long time. I even got off the bus and tried walking, hoping to catch another bus ahead, but it was not possible as the congestion was so severe.”
Rupali Rasne, who works at a private bank near CST, said, “I couldn’t work throughout the day due to the noise, and to go home, the swearing-in ceremony was causing even more problems.”
Several people affected by the traffic congestion suggested that the political leaders should have scheduled the ceremony on a weekend to avoid such disruptions.
