Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ ambition to make Maharashtra drought free on Friday received a positive response with corporate sector committed to adopt 400 villages. Chairing the Corporate Social Responsibility Conclave in the state capital, Fadnavis appealed the industries to come forward and participate in the Maharashtra’s drought free programme titled –Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan.
Fadnavis said, “It is the government’s endeavor to make 5,000 villages drought free within one year. In phases over next fives years the government intends to address the drought in all 25,000 villages across state out of 40,000 total villages.”
The chief minister appealed to the CSR heads to play a pro-active role in carrying forward the government’s flagship programme to combat drought. The state’s initiative to rope in CSR for social sector work comes in the backdrop of an appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the centre.
