CM Eknath Shinde announces Rs 5 lakh aid for victims of Nepal bus tragedy

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday announced a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident in Nepal, which claimed the lives of 25 pilgrims from Jalgaon district.

Shinde made the announcement while speaking at the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also emphasised that the state government is actively assisting the injured victims of the accident.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the 25 pilgrims were brought back to Maharashtra from Nepal in a special Indian Air Force plane on Saturday evening. A large crowd of villagers gathered to pay their last respects as the bodies arrived in ambulances and were cremated at midnight in their respective villages, where hundreds mourned their passing away.

A total of 27 pilgrims from Maharashtra were killed when the bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell 250 metres into the swollen Marsyangdi river in Nepal’s Tanahun district, about 115 km from Kathmandu, on Friday.
