‘Accelerating Marathwada’s growth’: CM Devendra Fadnavis flags off extended Vande Bharat service from CSMT to Nanded
The new Vande Bharat Express service will cut down the travel time between Mumbai and Nanded, an important Sikh pilgrimage centre, from 11 hours to nine.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Friday virtually flagged off the extended Hazur Sahib Nanded–CSMT Vande Bharat Express at Mantralaya, the government’s administrative headquarters in Mumbai.
With this, the 610-km journey from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai to Nanded, an important Sikh pilgrimage centre, can be completed in just a little over nine hours. Earlier, the service operated only up to Jalna. Its capacity has also been augmented from eight coaches to 20, which means the train can now carry 1,440 passengers compared to the earlier 500.
Speaking during the virtual ceremony, Fadnavis said, “To accelerate Marathwada’s growth, we are focusing on dynamic transport solutions. Today, the Vande Bharat Express has brought Nanded closer to Mumbai, opening new doors of opportunity and prosperity for the region.”
Till now, the fastest train between Mumbai and Nanded was the Devagiri Express, which took over 11 hours to complete the journey. The new Vande Bharat service will cut the travel time by nearly two hours. The semi-high-speed train service will be maintained and operated by the Central Railway (CR). During its journey between Hazur Sahib Nanded and Mumbai, the Vande Bharat train will stop at eight stations: Parbhani, Jalna, Aurangabad, Manmad, Nashik Road, Kalyan, Thane and Dadar.
Stating that the Indian Railways is moving at an unprecedented pace under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the guidance of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he said, “The India-made Vande Bharat, with world-class comfort and modern facilities, is a symbol of this progress.”
“This train is not just about travel; it is about connecting people, boosting tourism, and enhancing trade and business in Marathwada… With Vande Bharat Express, we are not only redefining travel but also taking a big step toward the region’s growth,” Fadnavis said at the event, which was also attended by Minister of State Meghna Bordikar and other dignitaries.
