The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation unveiled its much touted Save Water advertisement featuring cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday.
The 48-second public service advertisement,in which Sachin urges Mumbaikars to use water prudently, had hit a hurdle when the censor board denied it clearance.
The censor board had pointed out that in a portion of the ad,Sachin is shown in the sitting position while the national anthem tune is played in the background. The BMC has modified the ad and replaced the tune with that of Saare Jahan Se Achha.
It also chose to leave out the bit where Sachin urged Mumbaikars to take bath using a bucket rather than under the shower as his statement had met with opposition. The standing committee members had said that it was elitist and that the majority of Mumbais population did not have access to showers.
The ad has Tendulkar returning to the pavilion after practice when a waiter pours water in his glass. Sachin asks him to stop pouring when his glass is filled half, and says,Consume only how much you require. Dont waste as we have to rely on a limited stock till the next monsoons. Save Water Save Mumbai.
The BMC had approached Sachin to help them create awareness about saving water. With a budget of Rs 15 lakh, the ad was shot and edited by Eureka Films. The shooting took place on January 10 and was slotted for release within 10 days. We admit there has been a delay. We will expedite its distribution to various media, Municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya said.
