Four including two Chinese nationals booked for trying to extort money from Mumbai imitation jeweller
The police said that the complainant Hitesh Kumar Mali (25) along with two other persons had gone to China on March 17.

Four persons including two Chinese nationals were booked by LT Marg police for allegedly confining and trying to extort money from an imitation jeweller in Mumbai. The police said the incident took place in March at Yiwu city in China’s Central Zhejiang province, but the case was registered on Wednesday as the conspiracy to commit the crime took place in south Mumbai.
A senior police officer confirming the development said the case was registered following which one of the accused identified as Vipendra Rajpurohit (25) was arrested.
The police said that the complainant Hitesh Kumar Mali (25) along with two other persons had gone to China on March 17.
An officer said, “Mali is an imitation jeweller and as they get those goods at a cheaper rate in Yiwu city, they often go there to buy.”
However, after they reached China, Rajpurohit allegedly tipped off his accomplice identified as Chand Shah who then along with two Chinese nationals, went to their hotel in Yiwu and confined them in their room.
“One of the Mali’s employees, who had recently joined him, had taken some goods worth Rs 36 lakh from Rajpurohit few months ago and he had not paid for it,” said an officer.
“Rajpurohit believed that the employee is Mali’s business partner now due to which he hatched a plan and get money from him,” the officer added.
The complainant refused to pay them due to which the 25-year-old businessman and two others were confined to a room for two days. But somehow the three managed to escape from the hotel and reach Mumbai on March 20.
“As the three visit Yiwu often to buy imitation jewellery, they were scared that a false complaint will be registered against them in China or they will be beaten up when they go to Yiwu again due to which they did not lodge a police complaint,” said an officer.
But on Wednesday, they reported the matter at LT Marg police station after which Rajpurohit was traced and arrested.
