Amid speculations he would join the Maharashtra government, Ajit Pawar, along with eight leaders of the NCP took the oath of office Sunday. A disgruntled Ajit Pawar made the latest move four years after he tried to divide the Nationalist Congress Party as he once again took oath as the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, a post he will share with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis.

This came after he held an urgent meeting with NCP MLAs earlier in the day and, according to sources, at least 30-40 of the party’s legislators were in attendance.

Among those who switched sides along with Ajit are Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, Aatram Dharamraobaba Bhagwantrao, Aditi Tatkare, Sanjay Baburao Bansode, and Anil Bhaidas Patil.

Here are brief profiles of these NCP leaders who took the oath of office along with Ajit Pawar:

Chhagan Bhujbal

Bhujbal represents Yeola and is a prominent OBC face in the largely Maratha-centric NCP. A five-time MLA, Bhujbal had split from the Shiv Sena in the early 90s to join the Congress party at the behest of Sharad Pawar.

Dilip Walse Patil

Dilip Walse Patil is a seven-time MLA from the Ambegaon Assembly constituency in Western Maharashtra and is a close aide of NCP founder Sharad Pawar. He has served as a political secretary of Sharad Pawar.

Hasan Mushrif

The five-time MLA from the Kagal Assembly constituency in Western Maharashtra, Hasan Mushrif is a prominent Muslim face of the NCP.

Dhananjay Munde

Dhananjay Munde represents the Beed Assembly constituency and is a first-time MLA. Munde was earlier the leader of Opposition in the legislative council. Munde, the nephew of BJP leader Gopinath Munde, had split from the BJP to join the NCP and is a close associate of Ajit Pawar.

Aatram Dharamraobaba Bhagwantrao

A tribal leader, Aatram Dharamraobaba Bhagwantrao represents the Aheri Assembly constituency in Gadchiroli city.

Aditi Tatkare

Aditi a the daughter of NCP leader and Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare. She is a first-time MLA from Shrivardhan and was a minister in the MVA government.

Sanjay Baburao Bansode

Bansode is a first-term MLA from Latur and was the cabinet minister of the Maharashtra government from December 30, 2019, to 29 June 29, 2022. Considered to be a close associate of Ajit Pawar, Bansode had accompanied him during the 2019 early morning swearing-in ceremony.

Anil Bhaidas Patil

Anil Bhaidas Patil is the chief whip of the NCP in the Maharashtra Assembly. He represents the Amalner assembly constituency in the state’s Jalgaon district.
