Central Railway has announced a mega block on its suburban sections on September 21, to carry out engineering and maintenance work, officials said on Friday. The block will affect train services on the Main Line between Thane and Kalyan, and on the Harbour Line between Panvel and Vashi, including the Trans-Harbour route.
On the Main Line, the mega block will be in force on the Up and Down fast lines between Thane and Kalyan stations from 10.40 am to 3.40 pm. During this period, Down fast and semi-fast locals departing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 9.34 am and 3.03 pm will be diverted to the slow line between Thane and Kalyan, halting at Kalva, Mumbra, and Diva in addition to their regular halts. These trains will reach their destinations about 10 minutes behind schedule.
Up fast and semi-fast trains departing Kalyan between 10.28 am and 3.40 pm will also run on the Up slow line until Thane, halting at Diva, Mumbra, and Kalva before rejoining the fast line at Mulund. Long-distance trains departing from or arriving at CSMT/Dadar will be diverted via the fifth and sixth lines between Thane and Kalyan/Vikhroli.
On the Harbour Line, Up and Down services between Panvel and Vashi (excluding the Port line) will remain suspended from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm. Services from Panvel to CSMT between 10.33 am and 3.49 pm, and from CSMT to Belapur/Panvel between 9.45 am and 3.12 pm, will be cancelled.
Similarly, on the Trans-Harbour Line, trains between Panvel and Thane will remain cancelled from 10.01 am to 3.53 pm. However, services will continue to operate between Thane and Vashi/Nerul, while Port line services will remain unaffected. Special services will also run on the CSMT–Vashi section during the block.
“These maintenance mega blocks are essential for infrastructure upkeep and safety. Passengers are requested to bear with the Railway Administration for the inconvenience caused,” said Dr. Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway.
