Carry out desilting of Tulsi, Vihar lakes: Goyal to BMC officials

In a bid to augment the water supply in Mumbai, Union Minister and MP from North Mumbai Piyush Goyal Wednesday instructed the civic authorities to carry out the desilting of Tulsi and Vihar lakes which are among the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai.

Goyal also directed the BMC authorities to desilt the Bhatsa and Modak Sagar dams.

The instructions were issued during a meeting with Municipal Commissioner and state-appointed administrator Bhushan Gagrani Wednesday and a delegation of senior civic officials.

In the meeting, the MP also mooted a proposal of setting up a sports complex by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in a 37-acre plot in Mumbai’s Kandivali at the western suburbs.

Alongside this, Goyal also stated that the upcoming coastal road project between Versova and Bhayander should go on full swing and that he had held a dialogue with the state’s forest minister and principal secretary for expediting the NOCs that are to be issued to the BMC for the phase two of the Mumbai Coastal Road project.

Following which the proposal would be sent to the Union ministry of Environment and Forests for clearance.

Goyal also proposed that the T shaped flyover in Malad’s Mith Chowky would be partially opened by the end of this month, while the entire bridge will be opened by December, this year.
