Car mows down retired cop, scooty rider injured

A 76-year-old retired police constable died while another man was injured after a car rammed into them at BP road in Mulund (west) on Tuesday night.

According to police, the incident took place around 8pm on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Tukaram Sawant, was out for a walk while the other person injured in the accident was riding a scooter when the car, which was being driven at a high speed, knocked them down.

The car then rammed into a divider, following which occupants of the car fled the spot.

Sawant was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. The man riding the scooter too was admitted to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. The Mulund police registered an FIR and arrested the accused, identified as 22-year-old Amresh Yadav.
