An anonymous caller allegedly told the prosecutor that Emile Jerome, arrested in the Neeraj Grover murder, plans to flee Arthur Road jail, and the jail authorities promptly increased his security, adding five additional escorts to the existing three. Special public prosecutor R V Kini said the call arrived at the prosecution office in the sessions court. I received the call on Tuesday evening. The caller claimed that Jerome has been planning to flee, following which an intimation letter was passed to the Crime Branch and Colaba police. Security was beefed up immediately, Kini said. A report by the prosecution said the call should be treated with utmost seriousness as Jerome has had some arguments with jail authorities. Jerome has been increasingly having issues with the jail authorities. It is a serious issue and we couldnt have treated the call as just another prank call, added Kini. Defence lawyers were indignant. Police are just conspiring against him (Jerome). This behaviour by the police and jail authorities invokes mistrust and suspicion. They are trying to prejudice the court as the Bombay High Court has sought a reply following a complaint filed by Jerome against the jail authorities, said Abdul Vahab,Jerome lawyer. Jerome has moved the High Court alleging he was assaulted by jail staff last November after he raised the issue of jail rules being flouted by them. Aspiring model and South Indian actress Maria Susairaj and her boyfriend Jerome, who was in the Indian Navy, are accused of murdering Synergy Adlabs creative head Grover at Susairajs home in suburban Malad in May 2008. The two allegedly cut the corpse into pieces and disposed of them at the Manor jungle on the citys outskirts. The sessions court is currently recording evidence.
