Cabbies to move HC against plan to change taxi colour

Taxi unions in the city have decided to move the Bombay High Court against the state government’s decision to change the colour scheme of black-and-yellow taxis.

Taxi unions in the city have decided to move the Bombay High Court against the state government’s decision to change the colour scheme of black-and-yellow taxis. The taxi unions have also written to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to intervene in the matter.

The state government is planning to change the colour scheme to peach colour. “The minister comes up with a new scheme everyday, which is not in favour of taxi operators. Even change in the colour would be a futile process and we should oppose it,” said A L Quadros, general secretary of Mumbai Taximen’s Union. “The black- and-yellow colour is iconic. Changing the colour would create confusion and turn out to be an expensive affair for operators. To paint taxis with the new colour would cost the industry around Rs 80 crore.”
