Bus crushes polio-affected woman in Lalbaug

According to the Kalachowky police officers investigating the case,Rane’s father had died in his village a week ago and she was still in trauma. On Monday,Rane had gone to a tailor’s shop opposite her building and was returning home when the bus,heading towards Matunga at high speed,hit her. Rane was crushed under the front right tyre of the bus. “She was still lying on the ground when a taxi that was behind the bus also hit her,” said S Jain,senior police inspector at the Kalachowky police station.

Two men on a motorcycle informed the police control room and also alerted locals who intercepted the bus and nabbed the driver,Ravindra Mulik (50). The motorcyclists then rushed the injured woman to the KEM Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The police reached the spot and arrested Mulik on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence. “We have arrested the driver under relevant charges of the Indian Penal Code and will produce him in the court on Tuesday,” said Jain.
