Moves breach of privilege motion: Uday Samant lied about blacklisting South Mumbai road contractor, says Anil Parab

Parab alleged that Samant has given false information to the House and that neither the company has been blacklisted by the BMC nor the fine has been recovered by the civic body as the contractor has gone for the arbitration.

Sena (UBT) leader and MLC Anil Parab Thursday moved a breach of privilege motion against state Industries Minister Uday Samant alleging that the minister gave false information to the Legislative Council about the blacklisting of South Mumbai cement and concrete (CC) road contractor and recovering a fine of Rs 64 crore from the agency.

While replying to Calling Attention Motion (CAM) by BJP MLC Prasad Lad over the cement concrete road contacts, Samant had told the House that Roadways Solutions Infra India Limited (RSIIL), the company that bagged the South Mumbai CC road contract worth Rs 1,600 crore, was blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the contract was terminated and that a penalty of Rs 64 crore has been recovered from the company.

Parab Thursday, however, alleged that Samant has given false information to the House and that neither the company has been blacklisted by the BMC nor the fine has been recovered by the civic body as the contractor has gone for the arbitration.

“On Wednesday, the Minister told the house that RSIIL has been blacklisted. But it is not true. The company has not been blacklisted and not even a single rupee fine has been recovered from the company. It was a lie,” Parab said.
Parab moved a breach of privilege motion, which was backed by seven Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLCs.

Parab demanded suspension of the officials who gave false information.

Parab alleged that the Maharashtra government recently awarded contracts of Rs 89,000 crore for road construction when the actual cost of these mega highway construction projects implemented by MSRDC was Rs 49,000 crore.

“The Maharashtra government issued tenders for several highway construction projects worth Rs 89,000 crore. This includes projects like Virar-Alibaug, Nagpur-Gondia-Chandrapur and Jalna-Nagpur highways and the Pune Ring Road.

The actual overall quoted price in the tenders was Rs 49,000 crore. However some construction companies have been awarded contracts at inflated prices. This is aimed at collection of funds ahead of the state Assembly elections,” Parab alleged.
