The Government Railway Police (GRP) that registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case of 21-year-old Pallavi Vikamsey, whose body was found on the railway tracks near Parel station, will record the statement of the motorman of the train, under which she allegedly fell.
The statement will be recorded by a senior inspector to ascertain the sequence of events that led to her death. The railway police will also record statements of commuters who were on board the train. The police said they have ruled out any foul play in the death.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Machindra Chavan, said: “The senior inspector has been sent to record the statement of the motorman of the train to get to know the sequence of events. We have read in the media about statements of some train commuters who saw the incident. We will call them for questioning as well.” Chavan, however, said there was still no clarity on the cause of death.
“At this stage, we do not know what resulted in the death. However, we recorded the statements of the girl’s father and brother who told us that they do not suspect any foul play.”
Senior Inspector, Dadar GRP, Nitin Bobade, said: “So far there is confusion about the train. I had gone to record the statement of the motorman but there is some confusion. We have contacted the railways and tomorrow (on Saturday), we should be able to record the statement of the motorman.” An officer said the woman had sent a message to her parents saying no one was to be held responsible for her actions, making the police suspect that it was a case of suicide.
Vikamsey was interning with a law firm, Oasis Counsel and Advisory, in South Mumbai, and she stayed in Parel. Her father, Nilesh Vikamsey, is the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, according to the police. Before leaving office on Wednesday evening, the police said, Pallavi had texted her family saying she intended to end her life. She sent text messages to a few family members saying no one should be held responsible for her actions. Then she switched off her phone.
The family members started looking for her and when they couldn’t find her, a missing person’s complaint was registered at the MRA Marg police station in south Mumbai. Pallavi’s body was later found near the tracks in Parel following which, her family was informed and an accidental death report filed by the police.
