A 28-year-old man from Chembur died after a BMW car he had been driving rammed into a dumper on Atal Setu sea-bridge in the early hours of Friday. The police said the deceased, identified as Punit Singh Majra, had been returning from a party when the incident took place. The police have taken blood samples of the deceased to confirm if he was under the influence of alcohol. An officer from Sewri police station said that the incident took place at 2:30am some eight kilometres from the start of the bridge. The official said that the speeding BMW car going towards Panvel from Mumbai rammed into a dumper from the rear. Majra, who was driving the car, died on the spot, an officer said. The officer said the impact was so forceful, that the dumper swerved and hit a side railing of Atal Setu. "The dumper driver too sustained injuries," the official added. On further enquiries, the police found that the deceased was the son of a real estate agent from Chembur, and the family was informed about the incident. The officer said that as per the deceased’s father, his son had gone for a party and was returning home when the incident took place. The deceased had taken the vehicle on hire from an online portal. Sewri police station registered an FIR in the matter against the deceased. An officer said that once the blood report comes in and depending on the results, relevant sections of the law will be applied against the deceased. “However, since the accused is deceased, an abated summary report will be filed in the matter as per law,” the officer added.
