A magistrate court in Mumbai granted bail to Rajesh Shah, a leader of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, in BMW hit-and-run case and sent his driver Rajrishi Bidawat to one-day police custody. Bidawat was inside the vehicle with the leader's son Mihir Shah at the time of the accident, Rajesh was initially remanded in 14-day judicial custody on charges of helping his accused son flee and destroying evidence but was subsequently granted provisional bail on payment of Rs 15,000. While Mihir is absconding, the duo were arrested after a speeding BMW allegedly driven by him rammed into a two-wheeler in Worli on Sunday morning, dragging a 45-year-old woman for nearly two kilometres to her death. A lookout notice has been issued for the leader's son. The Mumbai police investigating have learnt that Mihir visited a bar in Juhu along with his four friends hours before the accident and paid a bill of about Rs 18,730 at around 1 am Sunday. Mihir was suspected to have consumed alcohol at Global Topas Bar, according to the police. Speaking to reporters at the Worli police station, Pradeep Liladhar Nakhva, 50, husband of victim Kaveri Nakhwa, said, “Had the car driver shown some humanity and stopped, my wife would have been alive today. When the car hit our scooter from behind, I fell on the car’s bonnet, and Kaveri fell on my back, not sustaining grave injury initially.” “We were shouting ‘Stop! Stop!’ to the person driving the vehicle. But he sped away with Kaveri on the bonnet. He dragged my wife on the bonnet from Ceejay House to Sea Link. I saw him; he was a young, skinny man with a beard and dense hair,” Pradeep added.
