In a bid to promote tourism and uplift the local heritage of Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to deploy food trucks in the Koliwadas of the city that will serve food of the Koli cuisine.
According to BMC officials, the civic body will deploy two such trucks in the Macchimar Colony Koliwada, near Badhwar park. The BMC has already initiated a beautification plan for Macchimar Nagar.
To operate the food trucks, the BMC has roped in NGOs and local self-help groups with civic officials saying that it is also an attempt to provide economic opportunity to the members of the indigenous Koli community.
Civic officials said that a fund of Rs 34.51 lakh have been reserved for this project and two foodtrucks would cost around Rs 28 lakh. Civic officials said that the trucks will be deployed soon after the facelift work is completed and the promenade is open for public.
