BMC seals nine properties for flouting air pollution norms

“Each of these properties are sites where private agencies and contractors have taken up construction works. We had sent them intimation letters first asking them to follow the rules, following which stop work notices were sent. However, these agencies continued to flout the norms and as a result we have sealed the properties till further notice,” Valanju said.

Civic officials said that during the inspection, it was found out that the contractors didn’t comply with the norms which included setting up sheets around the periphery of the site, and carrying out regular sprinkling of water for mitigation of dust. The officials also maintained that since the rules were not followed, dust displacement could be seen from the spot.

Meanwhile, the BMC’s data shows that so far 559 show cause notices have been sent to several commercial entities so far for flouting air pollution norms, and 773 stop work notices have been sent by the BMC so far.
