Ahead of monsoons, the BMC has designed new posters warning residents of the risks of living in highly dilapidated and dangerous structures.
Around 5,000 posters, being printed in Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati and Urdu, will be put up soon.
“Apart from issuing notices, we are going to put up these posters to warn people that they are risking their own lives by residing in such old buildings,” said a civic official of the BMC’s disaster management cell.
The corporation has designed three different kinds of posters. The first bears pictures of the Dockyard Road building collapse, which had claimed 62 lives in September last year.
The second poster has a picture of a person described as a vigilant Mumbaikar who took precautions by following BMC’s orders and therefore saved his family from any mishap.
The third poster warns people residing on hillock slopes. It says it is illegal to reside in such areas and it will be a man-made calamity if people continue to reside there.
“Despite issuing notices for evacuation, we face a lot of resistance from the people during demolition drives. The posters will be effective in making people realize the risk of living in dilapidated buildings,” the official added.
