In a bid to promote tourism in the Mahim Koliwada area, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to undertake beautification works at the promenade and the sea wall along the Mahim beach. The civic body has also pipelined plans to restore and beautify the 800-year-old Mahim fort, situated in Koliwada.

The move to beautify the structures comes along the heels of the launch of the first seafood plaza at Mahim, last year, an initiative which sought to promote the local cuisine and give a boost to the economy of the local Koli fishermen.

As a part of the upcoming plans, the sea wall will be beautified from three sides. The civic body has appointed an agency to implement the project.

For the centuries old Mahim Fort, meanwhile, the civic body has rolled out a plan to undertake restoration works.
“The soil from the steps of the fort, old tiles and plaster on the walls will be removed. After the completion of this work, the beautification work plan will be prepared. Following this, the repair and restoration of the fort will commence,” said a BMC bulletin.

To aid the local community and tourists who throng the beach, senior officials from the ward added that provision of permanent toilets will be made in the near future.
