Months after IIT Roorkee had asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to construct a new water tank instead of demolishing the century-old Malabar Hill water reservoir, the civic authorities have now asked the IIT to carry out a feasibility study to carry out repair works in the reservoir.

Earlier this year, after carrying out a technical investigation of the tank, the IIT had proposed construction of an additional tank. However, the authorities said they are also considering repair of the existing tank instead of constructing an additional tank.

“Construction of any new tank would also result in loss of green cover. Therefore, we are also checking the feasibility of repairing the existing tank. After the feasibility study is completed, a cost analysis will also be carried out by us, following which a final decision will be taken,” said an official.
