The police identified the victims as Prafful Tangdi, 42, a BJP Yuva Morcha district deputy chairman, and Tejas Tangdi, 22, and said the incident took place at Khardi village. Prafful had reportedly been the target of an attack a year ago, which he managed to survive.
Prima facie, based on the names given by the family members, the murders appear to be a fallout of a business dispute, the police said.
According to Harshavardhan Barve, Police Inspector, Bhiwandi Taluka police station, the incident took place around 11 pm when Prafful and two associates were at their JDT Enterprises office. Suddenly, four to five men entered the office armed with choppers and began attacking Prafful and Tejas, he said. Another employee also sustained serious injuries. The duo was rushed to a local hospital, where they were declared dead.
A murder case has been registered, and the police are on the lookout for the accused. Prafful’s family members have raised suspicion about some business associates, police sources said.
“We have found the CCTV footage from the area in which some of the accused have been captured. Once they have been nabbed, we will be able to get clarity on the motive behind the murder,” a police official said.
