BJP-Shiv Sena to hold Savarkar Gaurav Yatra across all Maharashtra Assembly constituencies from March 30-April 6
The aim of the Yatra is to educate the youth about the contribution of VD Savarkar to the freedom movement.

The BJP along with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena (SS) will hold the ‘Savarkar Gaurav Yatra’ across Maharashtra from March 30 to April 6, said BJP state president Chandrashekar Bawankule in Nagpur Tuesday. The aim of the Yatra is to educate the youth about the contribution of VD Savarkar to the freedom movement, said the BJP leader. The Yatra will cover all 288 Assembly constituencies in the state.
“The Yatra will conclude on April 6, the Foundation Day of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and I will participate in this Yatra. At least two big cities/towns in each Assembly constituency will be selected for the Yatra,” Bawankule said.
He added that over one crore citizens will participate in the Yatra.
Bawankule lashed out at Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray for “sitting back calmly” even as the Congress “repeatedly insulted the hero (VD Savarkar) of India’s freedom struggle.” He urged Thackeray to break his alliance with the Congress over the issue.
Bawankule said, “Uddhav Thackeray calmly tolerated the repeated insults of freedom fighter Savarkar by the Congress to maintain the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. Uddhav Thackeray abandoned the idea of Hindutva to retain power.”
The BJP has appointed coordinators for the Yatra. The Mumbai leg of the Yatra will be handled by Amit Satam, whereas Vikrant Patil and Sanjay Upadhyay have been made regional coordinators for Mumbai.
Meanwhile, BJP Mumbai chief Ashish Shelar said in a statement, “Various scenes of freedom fighter Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s life, his songs, his teachings will be exhibited through a ‘picturesque rath.’” He urged Thackeray to participate in the Yatra in Mumbai.
