Even as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray has announced that MPs from his party would extend support to Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the BJP Monday indicated that there was no question of accepting the support.

At an Idea Exchange with The Indian Express in Mumbai on Monday, Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar said: “The BJP general secretary in charge of Maharashtra Rajiv Pratap Rudy has already stated the party’s position on the issue. The BJP will go ahead with the ‘mahayuti’ (grand alliance) in the elections. The party is confident of mustering the requisite numbers.”

Shelar added: “We will not go to the MNS for support. MNS was a closed chapter for the BJP and its allies after it was categorically stated by both centre and state leadership.”

Refusing to be drawn into a debate on the impact Raj Thackeray and his party would make, Shelar said the “BJP-led grand alliance was confident of wresting all six seats in Mumbai.”

When asked about the necessity for the Gadkari-Raj meet if the party was not concerned about the MNS impact, Shelar said all parties and leaders were free to meet leaders from the other parties.
