Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is the largest party in Maharashtra, no matter what others might say. Fadnavis’ assertions came in response to MNS president Raj Thackeray, who claimed Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS has maximum appeal and acceptance at the grassroot level in Mumbai.

“In 2014 Assembly pills became the single largest party winning 122 seats. In 2019 it retained its single largest party position with 105 seats. Again in 2024 Assembly polls, BJP with 132 seats has become the largest party. These are the facts. People have given their mandate to the party,” he said, adding, “If somebody wants to claim their party is biggest let them do so.”

Many within the opposition believe that the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS leaders’ unity would become a game changer in the BMC polls.

However, Fadnavis believed people will support them for the development agenda.

“From Coastal Road to Metro, there are several mega projects which have been undertaken during my tenure as CM 2014-2019. As Deputy CM, we gave it fresh impetus.  And again as CM for a second term, we are fast tracing these projects which will bring huge relief to Mumbaikars,” he added.

Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s poll fraud, Fadnavis said, “Why are they not agreeing for a comprehensive poll revision? I have always held there was a need for a comprehensive poll revision to tackle the flaws. In the past I had also filed a petition in court seeking for a comprehensive poll revision.”

“If the opposition is seriously concerned about anamolies, it should give consent for a poll revision exercise,” he said.
