The BJP does not advocate the politics of breaking any political party. But if anybody voluntarily wants to associate with the BJP to work under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is no reason why one should not welcome them, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said at a party meeting in Mumbai on Friday.
“Fadnavis, who addressed party MLAs and MLCs at Garware Club urged them to get back to work with greater resolve to make the party stronger,” a BJP source said.
According to another source present at the meeting, “Fadnavis emphatically said the BJP does not break any political party. But if somebody reposes trust in Modi’s leadership and wants to join us why should we oppose. All those voluntarily coming forward to associate and support Modi should be welcomed.”
The state BJP meeting assumed significance in the wake of simmering discontent within the organisation following the BJP’s alliance with the NCP.
The BJP and NCP have been traditional rivals. And they have contested elections against each other. There were some reservation voiced by some MLAs and local leaders privately with party leaders. To placate the apprehensions and reassure them, the BJP convened the meeting.
While reassuring party members no injustice will be done against anybody, Fadnavis it is learnt said, “All of us should get back to work with greater resolve to make the BJP leading organisation. Let us not lose sight of the larger goal of national welfare and getting Modi elected with resounding mandate.”
“The campaign undertaken to commemorate nine years of Modi government should be extended for 10 days more,” he said.
Along with party workers the role of elected members is equally important. It should be a collective effort, he stressed.
