Matching the dates of Opposition INDIA front’s third meeting in Mumbai, the ruling grand alliance of BJP, Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar group in the state will be holding a meeting at Worli in south Mumbai to discuss Lok Sabha polls.

“We have been planning this meeting for many days now. Senior leaders of all the three parties will be meeting in Mumbai. We have also asked our MPs, MLAs and MLCs to attend the meeting where a political discussion on all 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held,” said Ajit Pawar group NCP’s state president Sunil Tatkare.

The Indian Express had earlier reported that the senior leadership of the ruling alliance is likely to meet this week to sort out pending issues in the alliance since the formation of the government.

Tatkare added that this will not be a seat-sharing discussion, instead it is meant only to gauge the political situation in all the Lok Sabha seats. From Shiv Sena, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Ramdas Kadam, Dada Bhuse and other senior leaders are likely to attend the meeting while from the BJP, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Mumbai party chief Ashish Shelar will be among others in attendance. From the Ajit Pawar group, Pawar himself will be joined by Rajya Sabha MP Praful Patel, state chief Sunil Tatkare and others.

Tatkare denied the meeting was purposely planned coinciding with the dates of Opposition INDIA meeting. “We have already formed a coordination committee and were planning to meet. This has nothing to do with Opposition’s meet,” said Tatkare.

The ruling alliance’s discussion on LS polls will be zone-wise. Elected representatives from Vidarbha, Marathwada, western Maharashtra, north Maharashtra and Konkan will be called separately to the meeting. Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar too has called a meeting of party leaders to discuss LS polls on Tuesday.

The Raigad LS MP also announced that after Beed, the next rally of Ajit Pawar group will be at Kolhapur on September 10. Interestingly, Sharad Pawar — who is on a campaign to rebuild his party after the rebellion of his nephew Ajit Pawar who joined hands with the BJP — too had held a rally in Kolhapur a few days ago. When asked if Ajit Pawar group was copying Sharad Pawar, Tatkare said the rally was planned as part of the strategy of holding zone-wise rallies.
